Septian Dwi Cahyo

Septian Dwi Cahyo is a composer whose work explores the intersection of European contemporary music, musical practices from Indonesia, and natural pattern systems. He studied composition with Beat Furrer and Sarah Nemtsov at the Kunstuniversität Graz and Mozarteum University Salzburg, and further developed his practice through international academies such as Impuls, CIEL Academy and the Young Composers Meeting.

His compositions have been performed across Southeast Asia, Europe, the U.S., East Asia, and Mexico by ensembles including Talea Ensemble, Orkest de Ereprijs, and Spółdzielnia Muzyczna, among others. His works have appeared in festivals such as Talea Encore, the Andriessen Festival, and the Limina Festival.

Septian has received the ASEA Uninet and Ernst Mach Grants, and was awarded the 2024 Arbeitsstipendium for Music Composition by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport. He has presented his work at international conferences including KEAMS, PGVIS, and the IEEE Region 10 SYWL Congress, curated the Southeast Asian music series Beyond Threshold – New Voices from Indonesia in Bangkok, and served as guest editor for a special issue on Indonesian contemporary music in Contemporary Music Review. His scores are published by BabelScores.

Septian Dwi Cahyo adalah komponis yang karya-karyanya mengeksplorasi persimpangan musik kontemporer Eropa, praktik musikal dari Indonesia, serta pola alami yang terinspirasi oleh algoritma dan fenomena alam. Ia menempuh studi komposisi dengan Beat Furrer dan Sarah Nemtsov di Kunstuniversität Graz dan Mozarteum University Salzburg, serta mengembangkan praktiknya lebih lanjut melalui akademi internasional seperti Impuls, CIEL Academy dan Young Composers Meeting.

Komposisinya telah dipentaskan di Asia Tenggara, Eropa, Amerika Serikat, Asia Timur, dan Meksiko oleh berbagai ansambel termasuk Talea Ensemble, Orkest de Ereprijs, dan Spółdzielnia Muzyczna, antara lain. Septian menerima beasiswa ASEA Uninet dan Ernst Mach Grant, serta dianugerahi Arbeitsstipendium 2024 untuk Komposisi Musik oleh Kementerian Federal Austria untuk Seni, Budaya, Pelayanan Sipil, dan Olahraga. Ia telah mempresentasikan karyanya dalam konferensi internasional seperti KEAMS, PGVIS, dan IEEE Region 10 SYWL Congress, menjadi kurator seri musik Asia Tenggara Beyond Threshold – New Voices from Indonesia di Bangkok, serta menjadi editor tamu untuk edisi khusus mengenai musik kontemporer Indonesia dalam Contemporary Music Review.
